Which Windows Operating System Version Do I Have?

This document pertains to HP computers with Microsoft Windows.

Determine which edition and version of the Windows operating system is on your computer. This information is necessary when installing other software or system updates from HP, such as service packs or BIOS updates.

The Windows edition refers to the name of a major release of Microsoft Windows.

Windows 10
Windows 8
Windows 8 Pro
Windows 7 Home Premium

The Windows version refers to a type of an edition.

Find your Windows version and edition

Choose your operating system for the steps to find the Windows edition or version for your computer.

Windows 10: right-click the Windows icon in the lower left corner

, select Settings, select System, and then select About.

Windows 8, Windows 7, and earlier: Press the Windows key

and Pause/Break key.

NOTE:
For touch screens and tablets without keyboards in Windows 8, swipe in from the right edge of the screen, tap Settings, tap Change PC settings, and then tap PC info.
